Communities In Schools of the Charleston Area (CIS) provides a dropout prevention program that surrounds students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. CIS partners with Charleston and Berkeley County School Districts to serve over 13,200 students in 28 schools, using an evidenced-based comprehensive approach to bring community services to students, their families, and schools. During the 2013-14 school year, 96% of students promoted to the next grade and 95% of seniors graduated. Out of the seniors that graduated, 88% went on to college and 10% joined the military.

East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO) provides safety net services to our low income neighbors, while empowering them to create a better future for themselves, their families, and our communities. ECCO provides emergency assistance for food, clothing, household furnishings, and financial needs. ECCO also serves low-income residents with access to free health and dental care, prescription drug assistance, education, job preparedness, and counseling. All programs and services strive to guide clients toward self-sufficiency. The Lowcountry Food Bank works to feed the poor and hungry of the ten coastal counties of South Carolina by soliciting and distributing food and grocery products to nonprofit agencies serving the poor, and to educate the public about the problems of and solutions to domestic hunger. The Lowcountry Food Bank was founded in 1983 as a clearinghouse for donated food items through the generosity of both the Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina and Trident United Way. Our service model is simple and cost-effective. We collect, inspect, maintain, and distribute otherwise wasted food products from manufacturers, food distributors, the government, supermarkets, wholesalers along with farmers to redistribute these food products to a grassroots network of 416 member agencies providing hunger-relief services.
